Gearboxes and power transmission
Gears, pinion shafts and couplings for gearboxes, speed reducers and power transmission systems.
Gearboxes use gear stages to reduce motor speed and increase torque. A failed gear in one stage does not mean the whole gearbox must be replaced; the gearbox can be repaired by making the faulty gear or gear pair again.
Frequently made parts
- Helical and spur gear stages
- Worm and wheel sets
- Bevel gear pairs (right-angle gearboxes)
- Pinion shafts and coupling hubs
Repair or replace?
When repairing a gearbox, we usually recommend replacing worn gear pairs together. Share photos of the parts and the gearbox nameplate details (ratio, power) and we will assess together which parts need replacing.
Gears commonly produced for this sector
-
Spur gears
The most common gear type: teeth parallel to the axis, transmitting motion and power between parallel shafts.
-
Helical gears
Gears with teeth cut at an angle to the axis, running more quietly and carrying higher loads than spur gears.
-
Bevel gears
Cone-shaped gears that transmit motion between intersecting shafts, usually at 90°.
-
Worm and worm wheel
A screw and gear pair that reduces speed at a high ratio in a single stage between non-intersecting, perpendicular shafts.
-
Couplings
A connecting element that joins two shafts to transmit torque while tolerating misalignment.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the gearbox nameplate important?
The ratio and power on the nameplate help confirm the module, the numbers of teeth and the choice of material.
Do you also make pinion shafts?
Yes. Pinion shafts, where the gear and shaft are one piece, can also be made from a drawing or sample.
