What are racks and pinions used for?
A rack is a straight bar with teeth cut into it, working with a small gear called a pinion. The pinion's rotation becomes linear motion along the rack (or the other way round). They are used where rigid, repeatable linear motion over long distances is needed.

Production details
For a rack quote we need the module, length, cross-section (width × height) and whether the teeth are straight or helical. On long axes several racks are joined end to end; in that case end machining and mounting holes are important. The pinion is made with the same module as the rack.

How are racks joined for a long axis?
The rack ends are machined so that the tooth pitch continues across the joint. Tell us the total length and mounting method and we will plan how to split the parts.
Can I have only the pinion made?
Yes. Just give us the module and tooth type of your existing rack. If you're not sure, add a photo of the rack next to a ruler.
Do you make sliding gate racks?
Yes. You can request a quote for racks in non-standard sizes or other materials.
